Automotive Services

Course Overview

Automotive Service  is a one-year course that encompasses the sub topics of NATEF/ASE identified areas of Electrical Systems, Steering & Suspension, Braking Systems. Specific projects within the class focus on the introduction of automotive systems through the designing and building of a go kart, shop tours, designing an automotive shop business plan, and hands-on work on full size vehicles in the following areas; brakes, steering, suspension, and electrical. This course meets the NATEF program certifications for the three primary areas offered in this course.  Mathematical skills will be reinforced through precision measuring activities and cost estimation/calculation activities.  Scientific principles taught and reinforced in this course include the study of viscosity, friction, thermal expansion, and compound solutions.  Written and oral skills will also be emphasized to help students communicate with customers, colleagues, and supervisors.
