Exercise Science Capstone
Course Overview
The second year serves as the Fitness Management Capstone experience and is designed to move students beyond foundational knowledge into advanced application, leadership, and professional practice. Students apply concepts learned during Year 1 through advanced exercise programming, movement analysis, client-centered decision-making, and real-world fitness management experiences.
Students learn to evaluate client needs, develop individualized exercise programs, analyze program effectiveness, and make evidence-based modifications to support client goals. Through kinesiology and human movement coursework, students gain a deeper understanding of biomechanics, movement efficiency, exercise technique, and performance considerations.
The capstone year emphasizes professional growth through leadership opportunities, project-based learning, community engagement, and practical application of exercise science principles. Students are expected to think critically, solve problems, communicate professionally, and demonstrate increasing independence in program design and implementation.
In addition, students may explore advanced industry-recognized certification preparation and specialty topics such as corrective exercise, performance enhancement, strength and conditioning, wellness coaching, and mental health awareness. These experiences help students further prepare for postsecondary education and careers in the health, fitness, and human performance industries.
